In order to meet green initiatives many companies are adopting, operational inefficiencies must be reduced to a minimum, if not eliminated all together. That has prompted many companies to undertake top-to-bottom reviews of their operations as they look to get leaner and greener. One of the leaders in this area in the fuel-delivery industry is CHS, Inc., Inver Grove Heights, MN, USA.
CHS delivers refined fuels to a network of 17,000 storage tanks operated by a customer base scattered among nine Midwestern states. In assessing the efficiency of its delivery operations, CHS discovered a need for streamlining. The solution was the creation of a new fleet of 7,000-gallon, four-compartment straight tank trucks featuring bottom-loading, dual meters and a dual pumping system for gasoline and diesel. These trucks would be colloquially called "Big Boys." A key component in the creation of these trucks was the incorporation of two Blackmer® 2.5-inch TXD Series Sliding Vane Pumps on each Big Boy.
The Big Boys, which were built by Westmor Industries, LLC, Morris, MN, USA, with tanks supplied by Trans-Tech Industries, Inc., Brewer, ME, USA, have been an tremendous success for CHS, its customers and the environment. To show how CHS has successfully streamlined its operations, Blackmer has created a Case Study about the project titled "Delivering Efficiencies."
